If you're looking to improve your skills as a paintless dent repair (PDR) technician, this video is for you. I'll be sharing my top three tips to help you become a better PDR technician at home. So keep watching to find out how!
Tip 1: Master Working with Both Hands
Most of us have a dominant hand—mine is my right hand. Typically, I push with my right hand and stabilize with my left hand. However, in PDR, you're often working from different sides of the vehicle, so it's essential to be able to comfortably switch to your less dominant hand. Practicing this will not only speed up your repairs but also improve your flexibility on the job.
Tip 2: Improve Your Accuracy
The quickest way to remove a small dent is to hit it straight in the center. You can practice this by drawing small circles or grids on a practice panel and working to consistently hit the target with your bar. Over time, this practice will make your repairs faster and cleaner, with less finishing work required.
Tip 3: Build the Ultimate Customer Experience
Customer service is key to long-term success in PDR. From responding to initial inquiries, estimating, scheduling repairs, and performing the work, to following up after the job, each touchpoint matters. When customers enjoy doing business with you, they’ll return and refer others to your services.
